MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) _ Steph Schueler scored 18 points as Iowa overcame Shannon Cate's 36 points to beat Montana 64-53 Wednesday night in the opening round of the women's West Regional.

No. 23 Iowa (21-8) outscored Montana 9-2 during the last two minutes to break the game open. The Lady Grizzlies, champions of the Big Sky Conference, ended at 26-4.

Trisha Waugh and Toni Foster added 10 points each for Iowa, which now faces 12th-ranked Washington (23-4) Saturday in Seattle.

Iowa led 25-17 with 4:22 left in the first half before Cate and Terre Tracy combined for eight straight points to tie the score at 25 with 1:35 left in the half.

Foster then hit two baskets to put Iowa ahead 29-25 before Tracy nailed a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left to cut the Hawkeyes' lead at the half to 29-27.

In the second half, Cate tied the score at 39 with a 3-point shot at the 13:56 mark. After Schueler put Iowa back on top, Cate hit another 3-pointer for a 42-41 Montana lead with 13:12 to play.

Cate came back with field goals on three separate occasions to cut the deficit to three each time, the last with 2:30 remaining. But the Lady Grizzlies could get no closer.

Cate, the only Montana player in double figures, also pulled down 11 rebounds for Montana as the Lady Grizzlies matched Iowa on the boards, each team with 38.
