MIAMI (AP) _ The Florida Marlins traded reliever Randy Veres to the Detroit Tigers on Monday for minor-league infielder Matt Brunson.

Veres, 30, was 4-4 with a 3.88 ERA in 47 games for the Marlins last season.

Brunson, 21, was the eighth player taken in the 1993 amateur draft. He hit .178 last season at Lakeland and Fayetteville.

Brunson, the son of former NFL receiver Larry Brunson, will report to the Marlins' minor league camp.
