SEVILLE, Spain (AP) _ Gete Wami of Ethiopia won the 10,000 meters gold medal at the world championships today, coming from behind in the last lap to beat Britain's Paula Radcliffe and set a new championship record.

Tegla Loroupe of Kenya took the bronze.

Wami finished in 30 minutes 24.56 seconds, the fastest time of the year, to take the title. Radcliffe followed in 30:27.13, a British record, and Loroupe set a Kenyan record with 30:32.03.

In a thrilling finish, Radcliffe regained the lead at the bell only to see Wami rush by her with an tremendous finishing kick. Radcliffe had taken the early initiative and led for most of the race. Leroupe took over with 3 laps to go but could not sustain a punishing pace.

Sally Barsosio of Kenya was not at the World Championships to defend her title.
