SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) _ A roof collapsed at a university auditorium in Brazil on Sunday, killing one man and injuring 18 people, authorities said.
The roof, which was added to the auditorium in a renovation about eight years ago, came down as hundreds of students were registering for a national zoology conference at the Londrina State University, about 320 miles west of Sao Paulo in the city of Londrina.
Authorities were investigating what caused the collapse, said Gisele Lima, a spokeswoman with Parana state's public safety secretariat.
Police said at least five people were trapped below the rubble when rescue workers arrived.
About 4,000 students had registered to participate in the conference, which was expected to run from Sunday night to Friday.
