Mets Offer Arbitration to Hampton
Dec. 08, 2000
NEW YORK (AP) _ The New York Mets offered salary arbitration to pitchers Mike Hampton and Bobby J. Jones on Thursday but declined to offer it to outfielder Derek Bell and shortstop Mike Bordick.
Players offered arbitration by midnight EST have until Dec. 19 to accept or reject. In the meantime, they can continue to negotiate with their former teams through Jan. 8.
Players refused arbitration can't re-sign with their old clubs until May 1.
The Mets also did not offer arbitration to infielder Kurt Abbott.
Left-hander Scott Forster agreed to a minor league contract with the Mets and was invited to spring training.
Forster, 29, went 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA in 42 relief appearances for the Montreal Expos this year, his first in the major leagues.
