WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) _ Holy Cross football coach Dan Allen took a medical leave of absence Monday.
University officials would not disclose Allen's condition, but said he would return later this month.
``It is necessary that (Allen) take some time off at this time in order to receive necessary medical treatments,'' a university statement said.
The assistant coaches will run the team in Allen's absence.
Allen, 47, was credited with turning around Boston University's struggling program before resigning to become the Crusaders' head coach in 1996. He spent eight seasons as a Holy Cross assistant coach between 1982-89.
In the last two seasons under Allen, Holy Cross has posted a 11-10 record, 7-6 in the Patriot League.
Holy Cross (2-3) hosts St. Mary's on Saturday.
