Ukrainian Olympic Medalist Killed

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) _ Gymnast Oleksandr Beresh, a two-time Olympic medalist and former European champion, was killed when the car he was driving collided with a government car.
Beresh, 26, was returning from Ukrainian Cup competition Sunday evening when his car collided with a sedan, the Fakty daily reported.
The silver and bronze medalist at the 2000 Olympic games died instantly, said Nina Umaniets of the State Sports Committee. Beresh's Olympic teammate Serhiy Vyaltsev, 25, was in serious but stable condition with head and internal injuries at a Kiev hospital.
The driver of the government car and his passenger, the daughter of deputy speaker Adam Martiniuk, were hospitalized with broken legs. The parliament's press service refused to comment on the case.
