NANTES, France (AP) _ Five truckloads of packages and letters stolen over the past four years have been found in the apartment of an enthusiastic stamp collector, police said Thursday.
Daniel Biotteau, 39, was charged with diverting correspondence, a crime punishable by up to a year in prison, authorities said.
Officers searched Biotteau's suburban apartment Wednesday and found the foyer, hall, dining room and basement packed with cards, letters, magazines, books and other items, police said. The stamps were torn off.
Biotteau, who is unemployed, was accused of following postmen around the city and breaking into mailboxes immediately after deliveries were made. He remained in police custody Thursday.
