Coast Guard seeks missing boater; GPS showed where to look
Jul. 18, 2017
WEST SHIP ISLAND, Miss. (AP) — The Coast Guard says it is searching for a missing boater off of Mississippi, and a grounded boat's GPS system showed where to look.
Petty Officer Alexandria Preston says the 17-foot pleasure craft had nobody on board when it grounded near Gulfport Harbor about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, with its motor running. But she says the GPS showed a track starting near West Ship Island , a barrier island about 12 miles away.
Preston, a Coast Guard spokeswoman, says three Coast Guard craft, including a helicopter, and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources are searching for Kevin Anderson.
She doesn't know his age or home town.
