Mother of Slain Child Charged with Faking Her Kidnapping
Aug. 16, 1994
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) _ A woman suspected of killing her 5-year-old son printed a business card with the FBI seal while trying to convince authorities that she had been abducted by men claiming they were FBI agents, prosecutors say.
Michelle Lodzinski, 26, was arrested Monday and charged with faking the abduction and misusing the FBI's seal.
She faces up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted on both counts. She was released on a $100,000 personal recognizance bond.
Lodzinski claimed she was taken to Detroit at gunpoint in January by two men who said they were FBI agents. Authorities say she took a bus.
In May 1991, Lodzinski told investigators that her son, Timothy Wiltsey, disappeared at a carnival in Sayreville. His skeletal remains were found in April 1992 in a marshy section of a nearby industrial park.
No one has been charged in the boy's death. Lodzinski remains a suspect, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Robert Gluck.
Lodzinski would not comment as she left the courthouse. Her lawyer said she intends to plead innocent.
