PHOENIX (AP) _ Tom Candiotti pitched two scoreless innings in his Oakland debut and rookie A.J. Hinch hit a two-run double as the Athletics beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 Thursday in their spring opener.

The Brewers, playing their first game since a realignment moved them from the American League to the National League, were shut out until the ninth, when they scored all their runs off Billy Taylor.

Pablo Martinez hit a two-run triple for Milwaukee, and Eddy Diaz and Antone Williamson had RBI singles. After Williamson's two-out hit, Tom Bennett relieved Taylor and got Todd Dunn to ground out to shortstop for the final out.

Candiotti, signed as a free agent, was the winner, allowing a hit and a walk. Scott Karl, who gave up the first Oakland run during 1 1-3 innings, was the loser.

Dave Magadan went 2-for-2 with an RBI for Oakland. George Williams and Jason Giambi added run-scoring doubles the A's.
