Jun. 17, 1999
YUMA, Ariz. (AP) _ Military investigators were trying to determine what happened during a training flight that ended with the death of a Marine who ejected from a F/A-18 fighter jet that crashed moments later.
It was unknown why the two pilots aboard ejected during Wednesday's flight over the Barry M. Goldwater Range. The second pilot was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, but no details were released.
The aircraft took off from the Marine Corps Air Station in Yuma but was from the Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron-101 stationed in San Diego.
On Monday, a Harrier jet crashed during a training mission at the Yuma base. The pilot wasn't injured.
