A's Pitcher Mathews Has Surgery

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Oakland Athletics reliever T.J. Mathews is recovering from arthroscopic surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow and is expected to begin therapy in a week.
Mathews, 9-5 with a 3.81 ERA in 50 games last season, should be ready for the start of spring training. The A's said the operation took place Tuesday.
