CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) _ Republican Eli Bebout leads Democrat Dave Freudenthal in the race for Wyoming governor, but a large number of voters are undecided, according to a poll published Tuesday.

Of 400 likely voters surveyed by telephone last week, 44 percent said they would vote for Bebout and 36 percent for Freudenthal, with 20 percent still undecided.

Bebout is the former speaker of the Wyoming House of Representatives; Freudenthal is a former U.S. attorney.

Republican Gov. Jim Geringer is barred by term limits from seeking a third term. Census numbers show that Republicans outnumber Democrats in the state by more than 2 to 1.

The poll, commissioned by the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle on behalf of the Wyoming Newspaper Group, was conducted Oct. 21-22 by Montana-based A&A Research. It has a margin of error of 5 percentage points.
