Special Delivery: Pink Slips for Christmas
Dec. 25, 1995
PITTSBURGH (AP) _ Pink slips on Christmas Eve?
As many as 100 top Allegheny County employees received special-delivery letters Sunday.
Many expected to lose their jobs as part of a changeover in government, but the timing was particularly disturbing to them.
``This is a Grinchlike way of treating people, as far as I'm concerned,'' county solicitor Ira Weis said.
Commissioner Larry Dunn said the letters were supposed to arrive later this week, but a postal foulup brought them earlier.
``It's unfortunate that this happens at Christmastime, but Christmas is at the end of the year, and Allegheny County government will be reduced significantly, so this will just be the first wave,'' commissioner-elect Bob Cranmer said.
