NEW YORK (AP) _ Former ``NewsRadio'' actor Andy Dick has been sober for nine months and he's trying to take control of his comedic career.

For years, he felt like he had marionette strings attached _ ``you pull the string and I'll pick my nose.''

``I was always appreciative to just let people take advantage,'' he tells US Weekly in its May 8 edition.

Last year, Dick pleaded guilty to charges of possessing cocaine and marijuana after a May 15 car crash in which he toppled a utility pole near the Hollywood Bowl. He also pleaded no contest to charges of driving under the influence and hit-and-run.

But now he's eager to rebuild his reputation _ and career. ``I really want to take the bull by the horns, do my own thing,'' says the 34-year-old comedian.

Things are looking better for Dick, who has a small role in the upcoming movie, ``Road Trip.'' He's also taping a pilot for NBC written by ``American Pie'' writer Adam Herz, and he has several films in the pipeline.
