CLEVELAND (AP) — Unbeaten in the playoffs, unchallenged so far in the NBA Finals, Golden State tries to take a 3-0 lead over Cleveland in tonight's game. The Cavaliers are hoping they can slow down the Warriors and climb back into the series the way they did en route to winning the title last year.
PARIS (AP) — Top-ranked Andy Murray is through to the French Open semifinals after beating eighth-seeded Kei Nishikori 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (0), 6-1. Murray will take on former champion Stan Wawrinka, who beat seventh-seeded Marin Cilic in straight sets. Among the women, Simona Halep advanced to the semifinals after saving a match point, beating Elina Svitolina 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0. Halep will next face second-seeded Karolina Pliskova.
SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have agreed with shortstop Jean Segura on a new five-year contract that brings stability to what has been a position of flux for more than a decade. Terms of the contract were not released, but reports have the deal being worth $70 million. The contract goes from 2018-2022 and includes a club option for the 2023 season.
NEW YORK (AP) — Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy has apologized for his on-air remarks that pitchers such as Yankees star Masahiro Tanaka shouldn't be allowed translators on the mound. Remy apologized on Twitter a day after he said during the telecast of the game between Boston and New York that pitchers such as the Japanese-born Tanaka should "learn baseball language." His comments quickly drew sharp criticism on social media.
NEW YORK (AP) — Irish War Cry is returning to the Triple Crown trail as the 7-2 favorite for the Belmont Stakes. The colt claimed that status after expected favorite Classic Empire was forced out earlier today because of an abscess in his right front hoof. Irish War Cry finished 10th in the Kentucky Derby and skipped the Preakness.
