2 men convicted in triple murder, now face life sentences
May. 14, 2018
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Two men accused of fatally shooting three people during a robbery at a northern New Jersey home have been convicted of murder and numerous other charges.
Essex County prosecutors say 37-year-old Lavelle Davis, of Galloway, and 34-year-old Jimmy Mays, formerly of Egg Harbor Township, each face life in prison when they're sentenced June 26. They were convicted late Friday and the verdicts were made public Monday.
The victims — 45-year-old Michael Davis, who lived in the Maplewood home; 30-year-old Roshana Kelson, of Paterson, and 44-year-old Lance Fraser, of Newark — were found in the residence in January 2017. Firefighters discovered the bodies after family members told authorities they couldn't contact the victims.
Authorities say Mays and Lavelle Davis were looking to steal cash and drugs. They say Lavelle Davis isn't related to Michael Davis.
