SYDNEY (AP) — Sydney FC has announced the signing of former Ajax captain Siem de Jong on a one-year loan from the Dutch club.
The 29-year-old attacking midfielder and former Netherlands international won four Eredivisie titles during his first spell with Ajax from 2008 to 2014. He took part in two English Premier League campaigns with Newcastle United before being loaned to PSV and returning to Ajax.
Sydney coach Steve Corica said de Jong is a technically gifted player who "scores goals and creates them for others as well."
De Jong joins former Reading striker Adam le Fondre whose signing was announced by Sydney last week. Sydney has one import spot to fill for the 2018-2019 A-League season.
