MUNICH, Germany (AP) — Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could miss the German Cup quarterfinal against Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday because of an ankle injury.

Schweinsteiger was injured in Bayern's 1-0 Bundesliga victory over Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

Bayern said a decision on whether Schweinsteiger can play in Leverkusen will be made on Tuesday.

The cup holder is already without wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben and midfielder David Alaba, as well as backup goalkeeper Tom Starke. But defender Holger Badstuber could return to the squad for Wednesday's match.

"We still have a super team despite the injuries," forward Thomas Mueller said.

The club will be boosted by the return of playmaker Thiago Alcantara after a year out with a knee injury.

Bayern, a 17-time German Cup winner, is eyeing a repeat of the 2013 treble-winning season. Pep Guardiola's team is close to clinching the Bundesliga title and is also in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where it plays Porto.

Leverkusen, which has won its last five Bundesliga matches without conceding a goal, is looking for its first German cup title in 22 years.

"We are in good shape, it doesn't hurt to go into such a game with a lot of confidence," Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt said.

Leverkusen is hoping for a repeat of the quarterfinal six years ago when it beat Bayern 4-2.
