BUDAPEST, Hungary (AP) _ A nationwide flu epidemic has killed 10 people in the past two weeks, a senior health official said Wednesday.

Nearly half of the 30,000 cases of the Type A virus have been reported in the capital, Budapest, said Ilona Straub, deputy chief of Hungary's public health office. Symptoms include high temperatures and lethargy and some people have developed complications, including pneumonia.

Eight of those to die were more than 60 years old, and all had other chronic illnesses.
