WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A Worcester man charged with fatally shooting his neighbor during an argument has been ordered held without bail.
Jacinto Maldonado pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder in connection with the shooting Monday night of 24-year-old Carlos Maldonado.
Police say the suspect and victim are not related but lived in different units of the same building.
The 42-year-old suspect was originally charged with aggravated assault and battery with intent to cause serious bodily injury, but charges were upgraded to include murder.
Authorities did not disclose the nature of the dispute between the men.
Jacinto Maldonado's public defender tells The Telegram & Gazette (http://bit.ly/2bmBpBb ) that he couldn't comment because he doesn't know anything about the case beyond what was said in court.
The death was the city's fifth homicide of the year.
