Dates set for 2 Mass. House elections
Dec. 30, 2013
BOSTON (AP) — The calendar has been set for two special elections for the Massachusetts House of Representatives, including one to fill the seat of Boston Mayor-elect Martin Walsh.
Secretary of State William Galvin on Monday announced that a primary for Walsh's seat in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood will be held on March 4, followed by a special election on April 1. Walsh will resign from the House effective on Friday, three days before he is sworn-in as mayor.
Galvin has also set those same dates for a primary and special election to fill the House seat formerly held by Republican state Sen. Donald Humason (HOO'-mah-son) of Westfield.
Humason won a special election to the state Senate last month.
Candidates for both vacant House seats have until Jan. 21 to file nomination papers.
