OTTAWA (AP) _ Michael Ryder scored in the third period to lift Montreal to a 1-1 tie with the Ottawa Senators in the Canadiens' preseason finale Saturday night.
Ryder, making a bid to make his NHL debut with Montreal against Ottawa on Thursday, led the Canadiens with five points in seven games.
Peter Schaefer scored for Ottawa (7-0-1).
Jose Theodore made 20 saves for Montreal, which finished the exhibition schedule 2-4-1-2.
Patrick Lalime stopped 19 shots for the Senators, who finish the preseason Sunday night in St. Catharines, Ontario, against the Buffalo Sabres and host the Canadiens in the regular-season opener Thursday night.
After two lackluster periods, Schaefer tallied for Ottawa. Just more than a minute into in the third, Theodore made the first stop on a rush by Marian Hossa only to have Schaefer stuff in the rebound.
Ryder scored 3:27 into the period, wristing a pass from Yanic Perreault over Lalime's glove hand to tie it.
