HOUSTON (AP) _ Atlanta Braves first baseman Andres Galarraga was suspended for three games and fined $1,000 by the National League on Wednesday for charging the mound against Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Darren Dreifort during the weekend.

Club officials said Galarraga planned to appeal the ruling. He played Wednesday against the Houston Astros.

Dreifort hit Galarraga on the left thigh with his first pitch Saturday, setting off a second-inning brawl. Galarraga swung at Dreifort's head but missed and the two players fell to the ground.

Both benches emptied and players from both teams tried to break up the fight.

Galarraga was ejected and Dreifort, who sustained cuts on his right elbow, was unable to continue.
