Prosecutors: Woman charged in fatal crash may plead guilty
Jul. 07, 2016
NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Cape Cod woman accused of striking and killing a University of Massachusetts Amherst student in 2014 may plead guilty before the upcoming trial.
The Daily Hampshire Gazette (http://bit.ly/29ps6Qa ) reports that prosecutors and the attorney for 64-year-old Cynthia May told a Northampton judge Wednesday that a possible change in plea was under discussion.
The Orleans woman has pleaded not guilty to reckless vehicular homicide in the death of 20-year-old Hannah Frilot, of Arizona.
Authorities say Frilot was walking along the side of an Amherst road with a friend when she was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by May in July 2014. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
If the plea deal falls through, the trial could begin this week or early next week.
