Autopsy: Tuinei Died of Overdose
Jun. 23, 1999
McKINNEY, Texas (AP) _ Former Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Mark Tuinei died of a lethal combination of heroin and a form of the drug ecstasy, according to autopsy results released Tuesday.
In its final autopsy report, the Collin County Medical Examiner's office ruled Tuinei's death was an accident.
Medical examiner Dr. William Rohr said the autopsy showed the 39-year-old former All-Pro offensive lineman administered the drugs to himself intravenously.
But Rohr said there's no way to tell whether Tuinei had used the drugs before. He says no needle marks were found on the body, but added Tuinei could have used a small needle without leaving a trace.
Friend and former teammate Nicky Sualua told police he found Tuinei unconscious in his car outside Tuinei's home in Plano the morning of May 6. Sualua revived him briefly through CPR, but Tuinei was dead when he arrived at a hospital.
