Schoolgirl Shot in Florida
Sep. 30, 1999
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ A 10-year-old girl was shot in the head outside her school. She thought she had been struck by lightning, and she managed to get up and walk inside.
Fifth-grader Lauren Klingensmith was hit by a small-caliber bullet Monday. She was in fair condition Wednesday, though the bullet could not be removed.
Police said the bullet could have been fired from more than 50 yards away. They didn't know whether Lauren's injury was the result of a reckless shooting, an accidental discharge or a deliberate attack.
