Reds Allow Dodgers To Talk to GM
Aug. 22, 1998
CINCINNATI (AP) _ Reds general manager Jim Bowden has interviewed for the same job with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Reds said they gave the Dodgers permission to interview Bowden and The Cincinnati Post reported he flew to Los Angeles the same day.
Tommy Lasorda is the Dodgers' interim general manager and plans to remain with the team in an advisory role next season.
Bowden's contract with the Reds runs through the end of next season.
The Dodgers have received permission to talk with other candidates for the job.
Florida Marlins general manager Dave Dombrowski will be among those interviewed, Lasorda said Friday.
Bowden could not be reached this morning. A telephone message was left at the Reds office.
After newspaper reports that his name was on a list of possible Dodgers' GMs, Bowden declined to comment on whether he had been contacted by Los Angeles.
'' I don't want to say one way or the other because there are very strict tampering rules, and I don't want to say anything inappropriate,'' he told The Cincinnati Enquirer.
