BURLINGTON, Mass. (AP) _ ArQule Inc. (ARQL) on Wednesday reported second-quarter net income of $5.2 million, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Burlington, Massachusetts-based company said it had net income of 5 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 2 cents per share.

The biotechnology company posted revenue of $13.7 million in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $7.7 million.

ArQule expects a full-year loss of 14 cents to 10 cents per share, with revenue in the range of $21 million to $23 million.

The company's shares closed at $4.98. A year ago, they were trading at $1.16.
