CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) _ Gabe Hunterton scored a career-high 30 points as Yale defeated Harvard 73-65 Saturday night in Ivy League play.
Yale (8-11, 4-4) trailed 51-45 with 8:40 remaining in the game when the Bulldogs, paced by Bernie Colson's 5 points, came back to take a 54-52 lead. Yale extended its advantage down the stretch with a pair of baskets from Colson and 5-of-6 free throw shooting from Hunterton.
Yale kept the lead the rest of the way, opening as much as a 10-point lead at 71-61 with 29 seconds remaining.
Chris Grancio tipped in a rebound for Harvard (4-16, 2-6) with 16 seconds left and Mike Scott followed with a lay-up for the Crimson. But Yale's Matt Ricketts was good on both his foul shots to ice the win.
In the first half, despite a 17-point performance from Hunterton, Harvard went up 30-18 when Dan Morris hit the team's fourth consecutive 3-pointer at 4:26. But then the Bulldogs went on an 11-3 run to narrow the gap to 33-29 at halftime.
Colson chipped in 20 points for Yale before fouling out late in the game, while Kawahito added 11. Harvard was led by a 14-point, 8-rebound effort from Kyle Snowden.
