TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) _ No. 1 Arizona is working on a new defensive look _ full-court pressure from the start.

The Wildcats will test their defense Wednesday in an exhibition game against Team Nike. They open against Western Kentucky on Saturday.

``Probably the most difficult thing has been trying to install a different defensive philosophy,'' coach Lute Olson said Monday. ``We have had to spend a lot of time to work on our full-court (defense). With the young guys it might have been better if we had taken more time in the half-court, but we feel we need to be committed to this style of play.''

After evaluating the team's great depth and the defensive prowess of preseason All-Americans Luke Walton and Jason Gardner, Olson decided to try to make things difficult for opponents from end-to-end.

Last week, in an exhibition opener against EA Sports, the Wildcats caused 25 turnovers in a 117-95 victory but committed 25 turnovers.

``It is hard enough for veteran players to play at this pace,'' Olson said. ``You get young guys and they get carried away with the open court opportunities.''

Walton and Salim Stoudamire, last season's Pac-10 freshman of the year, return this week after missing significant time the last few weeks because of ankle injuries.

Walton, a forward who led the Pac-10 in assists last season, is expected to play against Team Nike. Stoudamire could play against Western Kentucky.
