ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York conservation officials have unveiled an online mapping tool to help with planning in the Hudson River Estuary Watershed.

Department of Environmental Conservation commissioner Basil Seggos says the new Natural Resource Mapper announced Friday will be able to help identify important natural features, water resources, and recreation areas in the watershed. Users can zoom in to an area of interest to create custom, printable maps.

The mapper can also be used to locate fishing and boating access sites and other recreation areas across the 10-county region. The goal is to help officials devise strategies to foster conservation of the environment at the local level.

The mapper was developed by the New York State Information Technology Services and the DEC Hudson River Estuary program along with assistance from Cornell University.
