FLORAL CITY, Fla. (AP) — Florida authorities say deputies fatally shot a man who refused to put down a weapon.

The Citrus County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a call about a suicidal man just before midnight Friday.

Deputies tried making contact through the front door. After no response, they searched the outside of the home.

They saw a man across the street in a wooded area. As they approached, they saw he had a gun and ordered him to drop it.

Deputies shot the man after repeated refusals to drop the weapon. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The sheriff's office didn't release the victim's identity.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, as it does with any deputy-involved shooting.

The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave.
