RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Department of Social Services has denied one of two licenses for an assisted living facility with hundreds of documented violations.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that a department spokeswoman says they've issued an "intent to deny" renewal of the license for the building housing the Jones & Jones facility in Richmond. The department has not provided any additional details.

Facility owner Mable Jones says she intends to appeal the decision, which she attributes to "all the publicity and stuff."

State inspectors have found violations such as bed bugs and mistakes with medicine in the facility, which primarily houses those with mental health challenges. Last October, two residents died after they were struck by cars in an intersection where many residents are known to panhandle.
