ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) _ Hassan Booker scored six points in a 71-second span late in the second half to enable Navy to draw away from Maryland-Baltimore County and post a 76-64 victory Tuesday.

Michael Heary scored 24 to lead Navy, which improved to 2-1. Kennedy Okafor had 21 for the Retrievers, who fell to 1-2.

Heary had only four points in the first half, missing all six of his 3-point attempts. He continued to miss from long range in the second half, finishing 1-for-10, but posted up the smaller UMBC guards repeatedly. He also hit 9-of-10 from the line, including four in the closing seconds.

But an intentional foul by Heary with 2:46 remaining allowed UMBC to get back into the game after the Retrievers had trailed by as many as 10 points. Heary's foul of Rich Giddens, as the Retriever forward was making a layup, led to a 5-point possession for UMBC that cut the lead to 64-62.

Booker took over at that point, scoring on three inside moves, one after he picked up a loose ball that Heary had fumbled away in the lane. The three baskets by Booker made it a 70-64 game with 59 seconds left, and UMBC was forced to try to rally with 3-pointers and fouls, but was unsuccessful.

Okafor, who was 9-for-10 from the field, had a game-high 10 rebounds. Giddens scored 14 for UMBC, which got 11 points from Terrence Ward. All three are freshmen.

Booker finished with 13 points. Jeremy Toton scored 10 for Navy. He had six points and two assists in the final 11 minutes of the first half, as Navy erased a 24-10 deficit to take a 31-30 lead.
