DALLAS (AP) _ Kato Armstrong scored 23 points to lead Southern Methodist to the championship of the Southwest Conference tournament Sunday with a 75-64 victory over Baylor.
SMU, the league's regular-season champion, will play Notre Dame at Chapel Hill, N.C., in a first-round NCAA tournament game.
Baylor also received a bid, its first in 38 years, and will play Memphis State in South Bend, Ind. Arkansas, a third SWC school, will play Villanova at Cincinnati.
SMU won its 27th game, a school record, against six losses while Baylor dropped to 23-9. It was the Mustangs' first tournament title and ninth NCAA playoff berth. Baylor will be making its fourth NCAA appearance.
SMU snapped a 10-game Baylor winning streak despite 31 points and seven 3- point field goals by Michael Williams, who was named the most valuable player.
Baylor overcame a 12-point deficit to take a 60-55 lead before Armstrong took over, hitting three baskets and a free throw.
SMU, which shot over 60 percent in winning two other tournament games, missed its first six shots as Baylor took a 7-2 lead. But the Mustangs started to find the range during a 22-6 run that helped them take a 45-35 halftime lead.
SMU's fullcourt press forced Baylor into 13 first-half turnovers.
