SEMMERING, Austria (AP) _ Austria's Elfi Eder, taking advantage of a mishap by Slovenia's Urska Hrovat, claimed her third victory of the World Cup season today, in a slalom race.
Fourth after the first run, Eder turned in the second-best time in the second run down the icy, hard Hirschenkogel course. She finished with a total time of 1 minute, 40.70 seconds.
Hrovat, leading after the first run and seeking her first victory in a year, missed a gate at the top of the course of the second run and was disqualified.
Eder's win improved her lead atop the overall slalom standings with 360 points and gave the Austrian women's team its seventh victory in 14 races this season.
Norway's Marianne Kjoerstad, runner-up in the first slalom of the season at Vail, Colo., again placed second, in 1:40.98.
Kristina Andersson of Sweden was third in 1:41.02, followed by Switzerland's Marlies Oester in 1:41.18.
Claudia Riegler of New Zealand, a former member of the Austrian team, whose previous best result was sixth in Friday's slalom, and who was second going into the second run, finished fifth in 1:41.22.
