OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A woman accused of killing a sheriff's office volunteer has been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial by two court-appointed doctors.
The East Bay Times reports (http://bayareane.ws/2pjeUGN ) an Alameda County judge received the doctors' examinations of 24-year-old Laura Rodgers on Wednesday.
The prosecution has until May 5 to decide if it will challenge the findings in front of a jury or allow Rodgers to start mental health treatment at a state hospital.
Rodgers is accused of killing 21-year-old Karla Ramirez-Segoviano in November with the help of her boyfriend, Curtys Taylor, who is also charged with murder.
Rodgers would return to court to face charges once she is declared competent enough if she is sent to get treatment.
