LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A bank executive who came to the U.S. as a young refugee from Cambodia has joined a growing list of candidates to succeed outgoing U.S. Rep. Niki Tsongas.

The Lowell Sun reports that Bopha Malone, a vice president at Enterprise Bank in Lowell, will run as a Democrat for the 3rd congressional district seat.

The 36-year-old Malone is a leader in the local Cambodian community, having served as president of the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association.

She lives in Bedford outside the congressional district, which covers Lowell, Lawrence and other Merrimack Valley communities. There's no state requirement that candidates reside in the district.

Tsongas, who has represented the district for 10 years, is not seeking re-election. At least 12 Democrats and two Republicans have announced their candidacy for the seat.
