Stocks Mixed in Early Trading

NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is down five points in today's early going. Advancing issues on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 6-5 lead over decliners.
The Nasdaq Composite Index is off ten points and the Standard & Poor's 500 Stock Index is up a fraction.
Wall Street's popular averages all begin today's session in the neighborhood of where the began the year.
The Dow has a four-day losing streak, as does the S&P 500. The Nasdaq has lost ground for three straight sessions.
There is some corporate news for the investment world today, with mergers between Schlumberger and Sema, and PEPCO and Conectiv.
And a profit warning from networking equipment maker Emulex has put some high-tech investors in a more cautious mood.
