Undated (AP) _ Heavy rain and snow continued to drench the Northwest early today while scattered rain and thunderstorms were reported in the East and the South.
In Oregon, several days of heavy rain caused landslides and flooding. A section of Wilson River Highway about 30 miles east of Tillamook was buried under mud and debris after a slide Thursday.
Forecasters said the storm front had begun to move to the south and east Thursday night, meaning a gradual decrease in rainfall in the northern Oregon coastal area.
Rain was reported early today in Portland, Ore., and in parts of Washington state, Idaho and Montana. Snow was possible in central Washington during the day.
It also rained this morning in parts of Ohio, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Texas.
Severe thunderstorms were expected to develop later in the afternoon in Texas.
Skies were mostly clear elsewhere in the nation.
The high for the nation on Thursday was 97 degrees in Palm Springs, Calif.
High temperatures forecast today included the 60s and 70s in the Northeast and the Northwest; the 70s in the Northern Plains, the Great Lakes region, the Middle Atlantic states and California; and the 80s and 90s in the Central Plains and the South.
