ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Ted Williams has a mild case of shingles that will keep him from taking part Saturday in festivities at Tropicana Field celebrating the 100th season of American League baseball.

The Hall of Famer, who turns 82 later this month, was scheduled to give the ceremonial first pitch ball to former Boston Red Sox teammate Dom DiMaggio during pregame activities.

The celebration will take place before the Tampa Bay Devil Rays play Chicago.

Williams, who resides in Hernando County, Fla., has attended several events over the past couple years at Tropicana Field. He took part in a day recognizing former third baseman Wade Boggs' 3,000th hit last year.
