Truck driver indicted in death of firefighter
May. 11, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — A McLean County grand jury has indicted the driver of a semi-trailer truck that struck and killed a Hudson firefighter.
Mansur Shakirov of Spokane, Wash. is charged with reckless homicide in the death of Chris Brown on March 6. Brown was killed when the truck driven by Shakirov hit three emergency vehicles on Interstate 39.
On the day of the accident, there was heavy snow and winds. Firefighters were originally called to the scene for an accident caused by slick roads.
The 28-year-old Shakirov was originally charged with driving too fast for conditions and failure to yield, but those were dropped.
McLean County State's Attorney Jason Chambers tells the WJBC in Bloomington (http://bit.ly/10BjKwj) the grand jury indicted Shakirov on Wednesday. He says Shakirov was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Washington.
