Appointee for fire chief position withdraws nomination
Feb. 28, 2018
RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) — Rutland is continuing its search for a new fire chief after the original candidate withdrew his nomination.
Mayor David Allaire says he told the city's aldermen last week a Rutland search committee had selected Mark Monroe as the city's new fire chief. The Rutland Herald reports Allaire said Sunday Monroe had emailed him to inform him he was withdrawing his nomination.
Monroe did not respond to a request for comment.
In June, then-Fire Chief Michael Jones left his position four months early under an agreement with the city.
Allaire says the situation is frustrating, but officials are committed to finding the right person to lead the fire department. The search committee met again Monday in closed executive session.
