Oct. 21, 2017
AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) — Maine's youngest hunters have the state's bucks and does all to themselves.
Saturday is Maine's Youth Deer Day. Junior hunters who hold a valid junior hunting license are allowed to take one deer of either sex via firearm, archery or crossbow.
The state Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife says junior hunters who shoot a deer on Youth Deer Day are prohibited from taking additional deer. Hunters are encouraged to check with state wildlife rules before hunting.
The main hunting season for deer begins on Oct. 30 and runs until Nov. 25. The expanded archery season lasts until Dec. 9.
