UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. (AP) _ The Universal Studios Tour temporarily closed its popular ''Earthquake'' attraction, a terrifying simulation of a San Francisco Bay area quake, because of the devastation 400 miles away.
''We are closing the earthquake attraction only for 48 hours out of respect and as a sympathetic gesture to our neighbors in the Bay Area,'' said Universal spokeswoman Joan Bullard.
The studio attraction simulates an 8-plus magnitude quake underground at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station. A deadly earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck the Bay Area on Tuesday, causing the collapse of buildings and freeways.
