LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Eight wheelchair-bound activists were arrested as more than 130 disabled people demonstrated against a lack of access to public transportation, police said.
The eight were arrested Sunday near the downtown Bonaventure Hotel, where they had blocked entrances and stairways, and were booked for investigation of failing to disperse and interfering with police, officers said.
Earlier, a procession of 131 wheelchairs carried people with disabilities ranging from cerebral palsy to postpolio paralysis from MacArthur Park to the Bonaventure, where the annual conference of the American Public Transit Association was being held.
