Oilers' Moreau, Carter Injured
Mar. 11, 2001
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) _ Edmonton Oilers forwards Ethan Moreau and Anson Carter both went out in the first period of Sunday's game with the Carolina Hurricanes after being hit in the face with the puck.
Moreau, who started at left wing, got hit on the nose on a shot in the Carolina end of the ice less than a minute in and went straight to the bench. Edmonton's trainers tried to stop the bleeding there, but took him to the locker room about two minutes later.
Carter was hit above the right eye on a shot by Tom Poti that was tipped by Carolina's Rob DiMaio with 3:04 left. He went immediately to the locker room with a towel pressed to his face.
Moreau, who suffered a broken nose, was back on the ice to start the second period wearing a face mask. Carter was back on the bench to start the second after taking six stitches.
