PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Several school districts across Rhode Island will close early due to anticipated high temperatures.

A number of school districts let students out early Wednesday, while others have ordered early dismissals for Thursday — including Central Falls and East Greenwich. West Warwick Superintendent Karen Tarasevich says most of her district's classrooms aren't air conditioned and don't cool down easily.

In North Providence, the superintendent decided to cut the day short after visiting classrooms.

Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo says early closures are up to local district, saying "as a mother, it is almost impossible to think that these kids could be able to focus in 90-degree weather in the schools."
